THE ADRIA HOTEL

Year: 2012

Designer: JESTICO + WHILES

Status: Completed

The Adria is a lovingly restored Grade II listed building in the heart of South Kensington, which transformed a dilapidated residential use building into a small luxury hotel.
The fabric of the building has been carefully considered, with remnants of the original building protected and lovingly recreated to bring back to life this wonderful 1870s building. T
he plan layout and usability of the building reinstated the original dual entrance and grand hallways, which were previously blocked up and used for bathrooms and kitchens. The upper floor levels and roofs were allowed to rot and decay, as was much of the building, and this project carefully restored these elements.
Every element of the architectural envelope has utilised traditional crafted materials built by British craftsmen and included traditional parquet flooring, hand cast plasterwork and ornate cast iron balustrading.
There are 24 individually designed bedrooms. All bedrooms are light and airy with high ceilings, all maintaining their existing features including sash windows, high ceilings and cornicing. Some of the rooms feature balconies.
The bedrooms combine a relaxed atmosphere with comfortable, understated interiors. All rooms have a 1950s feel balanced with state-of-the-art technology and contemporary comfort.
