Poltrona Frau Contract for Roma Convention Center

Poltrona Frau furnishes the 1800-seat auditorium of the new Roma Convention Center with the Carla armchair designed by architects Doriana and Massimiliano Fuksas. The complex, designed by architects Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas, is in the EUR district. Covering a surface area of 58,500 m2, it comprises three intersecting elements: the Teca, the Nuvola and the Lama hotel. The Nuvola - Italian for cloud - is without doubt its most distinctive architectural element: the steel ribbed structure with an incredible visual appearance is covered by a transparent sheet and floats in a steel and glass container 40 metres high, 70 metres wide and 175 metres long. The entire design of the space stands out for its eco-compatible approach, innovative logistics solutions and use of technologically advanced materials. Inside the auditorium, suspended at a height of 50 metres, the seats are organised in two main blocks; the 1260-seat stall area and the 500-seat gallery. Arranged in tiers, they are the key element of the project and help ensure the levels of excellence required in terms of acoustics and performance, design and cutting-edge style. Some seats come with a special sensor that monitors the temperature of the auditorium, which is directly controlled by a central heating system. This type of variable air conditioning system makes for efficient energy consumption on the basis of the actual capacity of the rooms.
