CIFF-Shanghai 2016. The main international business platform supporting good Asian design
The doors are about to open again on CIFF-Shanghai 2016, the September edition of the China International Furniture Fair which, for the second year, will be held in the most international city in China. 

The event that will transform Shanghai into the capital of Chinese design will be held in the National Exhibition & Convention Center (Shanghai) in Hongqiao, from 7 to 10 September. An appointment that has only recently been established, but that has already been consolidated: 400,000 square metres of surface area will be occupied by 2,000 manufacturers of home furnishing, office furniture, garden furniture, furnishing textiles, furnishing accessories, machinery and raw material for making furniture. More than 100,000 international professional operators working in the sector are expected to attend.
Every year CIFF works to ensure that exhibitors and visitors experience the best commercial platform in the sector, and also to provide a unique opportunity for companies and the main players to meet and discuss issues. This is why, in the sector, it is known as the “Bootcamp for brands”, “The commercial centre of Asian furniture”, “Weathervane of the Chinese Furniture Industry”.

The standout appointment at CIFF-Shanghai 2016 will be the EAST Design Show: displaying a selection of furniture made by the most influential and respected eastern brands, marked by good design and high quality. Good eastern design exists, and the East Design Show is the perfect opportunity to get to know and rediscover it. Aware that Chinese design has attracted little attention in recent times, for the second year running CIFF puts itself forward as the promoter of eastern creativity, and has commissioned the organisation of the event to Zhu Xiaojie, famous designer and principal of the Wenzhou Furniture College, Hou Zhengguang, founder of Shanghai Each Corporation and of MoreLess Design, and Song Jianming, Vice-Director of the Chinese Academy of Fine Arts.

On the one hand supporting famous designers, and on the other giving prominence to young talent is fundamental for CIFF because this represents the driver to growth for the furniture sector. So the EAST Design Show becomes an international showcase and platform in which to get to know one another, exchange ideas and experiences. The exhibition combines academic laboratories such as the Company Workshop which will be attended by famous furniture companies, the Academic Workshop dedicated to design schools and to the topic of education, the Independent Workshop reserved for laboratories that particularly focus on product design, the Media Workshop which will be visited by the most influential press specialised in the sector.

The programme schedules a large number of forums that will be attended by influential designers, young talent, represented by award-winning Chinese companies, design schools, buyers and the media, in order to discuss the growth of eastern design. The EAST Design Show logo includes all these concepts: the pencil as a symbol of design and high-quality artisanal production, the curve representing happiness, and black and yellow symbolising Asia.
